Biography

Zaho, whose real name is Zahera Darabid, is an Algerian-Canadian singer-songwriter born on 10 May 1980 in Algiers.

Born in Algeria, she grew up in the suburbs of Algiers before moving to Canada with her family at the age of 18. It was in Montreal that she launched her musical career, initially singing in bars and taking part in competitions.

In 2008, she released her debut album ‘Dima’, an instant success that catapulted her to the forefront of the French music scene. Buoyed by the hits ‘C'est chelou’ and ‘Je te promets’, the album went gold and won her numerous awards, including the MTV Europe Music Award for best French-language artist.

Zaho followed this up with the albums ‘Contagieux’ (2011) and ‘Dans ma tête’ (2013), confirming her status as a key artist. She stands out for her mixed musical style, blending urban, pop and world influences, and for her poetic, committed lyrics.

A singer with a powerful voice and a charismatic stage presence, Zaho is also a committed artist who defends values such as respect, tolerance and equality. She is involved in numerous humanitarian actions and supports causes close to her heart.

Zaho scored a big hit with her latest album, Résilience (2023), featuring tracks such as ‘Oh Mama’, ‘Ma lune’ and ‘Je t'aime à l'algérienne’, which won over the public and confirmed her status as a key artist.
