Biography

Shay, whose real name is Vanessa Lesnicki, is a Belgian rapper born in Brussels on 16 August 1990. Born to a Belgian father of Polish origin and a Congolese mother, she grew up in the Molenbeek-Saint-Jean district of Brussels.

Lulled by music from an early age, particularly by her grandfather, the Congolese singer Tabu Ley Rochereau, Shay began rapping in her teens. In 2011, she became a household name thanks to her collaboration with French rapper Booba on the track ‘Cruella’.

Signed to Booba's label, 92i, she released her debut solo album, Jolie Garce, in 2016. The album was a critical and commercial success, buoyed by the singles ‘XCII’, ‘Je Vole’ and ‘Balek’.

In 2020, she released her second album, Aïssa, which explored new musical sounds.

Released on 19 January 2024, ‘Pourvu qu'il pleuve’, the third studio album by Belgian rapper Shay, is a huge success. Acclaimed by the critics and acclaimed by the public, this opus explores personal and intimate themes with a musical richness that seduces.

Boosted by tracks such as ‘Partie Hier’, ‘Shooter’, ‘Santa Fe (feat. Bad Gyal)’ and ‘Commando’, the album stands out as a landmark in the artist's career, confirming his status as a major figure in French-language rap.
